Dr. Ding Jo Currie

Dr. Ding-Jo H. Currie has been a nationally and internationally recognized leader in education for more than 30 years.  As the former Chancellor of the Coast Community College District, she was the Chief Executive Officer responsible for the three colleges that included Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College. One of the nation’s largest districts in credit enrollment, the colleges of the Coast District serve more than 60,000 students each semester.

 

Before becoming chancellor, Dr. Currie was the president of Coastline Community College headquartered in Fountain Valley. Dr. Currie had served as Board Chair of the American Association of Community Colleges—an honor bestowed upon her by peer CEOs nationwide. She is also called upon to serve in many other leadership roles such as Chair of the Community College Advisory Panel for the College Board, Board Member for American Council of Education, Center for Global Integrated Education, and many other organizations.

 

Dr. Currie is consistently active and outspoken promoting global workforce development, technology and leadership development, women’s issues, international education, and most importantly, student success. She has earned a respected reputation as a dynamic and visionary leader as well as a strong unity builder.

 

Dr. Currie has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Women Helping Women Award, the Who’s Who in International Professional Executives recognition, the Outstanding Chinese Educator Award, the Small Business Administration District Director’s Award and the award for Woman of the Year in Community Colleges. These honors were based upon her successes in a leadership role and for her capacity to bring about positive change for higher education, businesses, communities, women, and minorities.

 

Supporting her career endeavors is a solid education. Dr. Currie obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Southern California in Intercultural/International Education. She also holds degrees in Mathematics, Psychology and Counseling. As an immigrant, Dr. Currie has not only become a new American, she exemplifies a model for patriotic citizenship and outstanding leadership for all Americans. She is married with two daughters ages 24 and 22.

Dr. Jack Daniels

With a 30-year career in higher education in four states, Dr. Jack E. Daniels III brings to Southwest College a wealth of expertise in strategic planning, continuous process improvement, business-education partnerships, fundraising and grant procurement, as well as outreach to multicultural communities.

Prior to Southwest College, Dr. Daniels was president of Lincoln Land Community College (Springfield, Ill.) and Central College (Houston, Texas). He also held administrative positions in California (Grossmont College, Peralta Community College District, Contra Costa College) and Florida (Miami-Dade Community College).

Dr. Daniels holds a Ph.D. from the Wright Institute Graduate School of Psychology and a B.A. in History and Education from Huntington College. He is an honorary member of Phi Beta Lambda and Phi Theta Kappa.

Eloy Ortiz Oakley
Eloy Ortiz Oakley is a true community college success story. After graduating from high school and four years in the U.S. Army, the Southern California native found focus at a community college.

 

Oakley went on to receive his B.A. in Environmental Analysis and Design and his MBA in Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine, after transferring from Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Before joining Long Beach City College in 2002, he was the Vice President, College Services at Oxnard College; Assistant Vice President, Property & Casualty Division of Keenan & Associates; and the Manager, Risk Services for the Coast Community College District. Oakley was also an adjunct faculty member teaching in and coordinating the Environmental Technology Certificate Program at Golden West College.

He was appointed Superintendent-President of the Long Beach Community College District after four years as LBCC’s Assistant Superintendent/Executive Vice President of Administrative Services, in which he undertook supervision of the Measure E Bond construction project on both campuses and oversaw the finances and operations of the college.

In addition to serving as President of LBCC, Oakley currently serves on the Boards/Committees of St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, Long Beach Rotary Club, Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, The CSULB Ed.D Program Educational Leadership Advisory Board, the American Association of Community College Commission on Diversity, Inclusion & Equity, and The California Conference for Equity and Justice Board of Directors.

He is also a member of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), and the Association of California Community Colleges Administrators (ACCCA).  Oakley and wife Bernadette are the proud parents of one LBCC graduate and three future Vikings.
